Starting a Business in Idaho

Idaho Business License:  The State of Idaho requires business registration through Idaho Business Registration System.  This system will assist business owners to register with Idaho Commerce and Labor, the Idaho State Tax Commission, and the Idaho Industrial Commission. You may apply for the following:

  • Sales or use tax
  • Income tax withholding
  • Unemployment tax
  • Boise Auditorium District tax
  • Travel and convention tax.
  • You will also be notifying the Idaho Industrial Commission of your business.

City Licensing Requirements: Cities may require local business licenses. However, Idaho State does not issue City Business Licenses. You should contact your local city revenue office to learn about any required business licenses.
